20 minutes away of Marseilles and Toulon, La Ciotat is a small seaside resort which managed to keep its authenticity.
The city is limited in the west by the Calanques, the highest cliffs of Europe (394m), and an island, the Ile Verte, just off the coast. In the east, the city offers more than 6 km of sand beaches. You will be charmed by the old picturesque fishing port, the beautiful houses of 17th century, the 'Route des Crêtes' leading to Cassis, and the Park du Mugel, where you will discover a varied and abundant vegetation as well as a unique panoramic view on the city, the shipyards and the islands of the bay.
The train station of Ciotat is a pretty small station just like many others in the Provence. But here took place an outstanding event in the history of the cinema. In 1895 the Lumière brothers filmed their first motion picture: The arrival of a train in the station of La Ciotat...
