Exploring the Garlaban massif in Aubagne
During your stay at our campsite, discover the Garlaban Massif in the heart of a vast 8,000-hectare area. This limestone massif offers a 360° panorama of Marseille and the Mediterranean Sea. However, the Garlaban is not the massif’s highest peak.
The highest point is the 731-meter-high Butte des Pinsots. Part of the site has been classified Natura 2000 since 2003, thanks to its rich biodiversity. In fact, you’ll be able to observe flora and fauna typical of the region. You’re sure to hear the song of the cicadas in the middle of the garrigue.

The massif abounds in plants, shrubs, trees, birds, insects and small mammals. You may be lucky enough to spot crickets, grasshoppers or finches.
As mentioned above, Marcel Pagnol’s works have helped make the Garlaban massif famous the world over. This natural setting was a source of inspiration and was used as a location for some of his film scenes: the farm ruins in “Angèle”, Raimu’s well in “La fille du puisatier”, the cave in “Manon des Sources”, etc.).

To follow in Marcel Pagnol’s footsteps, take one of the ten itineraries, some of which are guided, that retrace the various filming locations. These itineraries , ranging from 7 to 12 km, allow children to discover this famous filmmaker and writer.
For example, the ” Garlaban par la Font de Mai ” trail is an easy family walk. This 12 km route offers superb views over Marseille and Aubagne.
