Parc du Mugel in La Ciotat
With a surface area of around 17 hectares, Parc du Mugel is a natural and botanical site located in the French commune of La Ciotat, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
Sheltered by the Bec de l’Aigle massif and bathed by the Mediterranean, it enjoys a microclimate conducive to the creation of an original park of gardens and wild spaces.

Its bamboo grove, cacti, aromatic plants, chestnut trees, tropical plants, cork oaks and belvedere are the pride of the site.
In 1923, Louis Fourquet decided to make the garden his second home. In 1952, half the estate was acquired and carefully maintained by the municipality of La Ciotat, hence its designation as a ” Remarkable Garden “. The other half was purchased by the Conseil Général des Bouches-du-Rhône 30 years later.

Visit the botanical park
Staying at the Ceyreste campsite near La Ciotat gives you easy access to the Mugel botanical park.
There are two pebble beaches, the larger of which is right at the entrance to the site. A children’s play area and picnic area with benches and shaded tables are located below the Petit Mugel cove.

The site is dominated by a bastide house occupied by the “Atelier Bleu” environmental education center, which works to protect the coastline. A hiking trail, accessible to beginners, takes you past the Mugel and Figuerolles creeks.
Visitors can admire Ile Verte and Anse du Sec from a variety of vantage points, including the grand belvedere 82 meters above the sea. The park offers a multitude of activities, from beaches and picnics to nature walks and botanical gardens, guaranteeing an enjoyable day out for the whole family.
The park is open from April to September from 8am to 8pm, and from October to March from 9am to 6pm, with possible restrictions in the event of fire hazards. Pay parking is available nearby.
