If you look up, you’ll catch a glimpse of Cassis castle, high above Cap Canaille. A fortified enclosure dating from the 13ᵉ century, the château once sheltered the town’s inhabitants. It is now privately owned, but contributes to the beauty of the town.

For wine lovers, Cassis, close to the campsite, is a must-see place, where you can visit the Cassis cellars of estates such as Paternel, Fontcreuse or Bagnol. But above all, Cassis is a small fishing port to discover on your family vacation.

What to do in Cassis During your vacation at our campsite in Cassis, we recommend a number of tourist attractions to visit with family or friends:

  • The Calanques circuit by foot or by sea, discover breathtaking panoramas of the Mediterranean coast, small beaches, the marina, scuba diving, hiking, climbing and Provencal markets.
  • The Cassis vineyard, a delight for wine-loving campers. The vineyards cover over 200 hectares, adding a unique charm to the town of Cassis. You can stroll through this magnificent landscape, and even meet the Cassidain winemakers, who will be delighted to show you their famous Cassis wine.

  • Cassis beaches: laze around, play in the water and swim at the main Grande Mer beach, Bestouan beach, Anse de l’Arène and Corton, and the natural beach of Les Roches plates.
  • Musée Municipal Méditerranéen d’Art et Traditions populaires de Cassis, on Place Baragnon, where you can admire a collection of paintings and exhibitions organized throughout the year.

Enjoy the beaches of Cassis

Cassis boasts numerous beaches in the village and in the calanques. Ideal for resting, relaxing, having fun in the water and enjoying family vacations in Provence. Enjoy 5 beaches or coves with the Blue Flag label: Grande Mer and Bestouan beaches, Port Miou cove, Dorton and Arena coves. Plage de la Grande Mer is Cassis’ main beach, located in the town center, not far from the port and the Oustau Calendal.

This beach of sand and pebbles has the cliffs as its backdrop. The beach of the calanque de Port-Pin is a 15-minute walk from the calanque de Port Miou and is particularly beautiful. Bestouan beach is the most beautiful, with a view over Cassis. It’s a small, clean pebble beach with showers and a snack bar on the beach. Cassis lends itself well to seaside cycling, particularly along the Route des Crêtes and its magnificent scenery. You can also discover the town of Aubagne by bike, just a few kilometers from Cassis, on the “Pays d’Aubagne et de l’étoile, circuit des villages”.

Walking around Cassis by the sea

Cassis offers magnificent panoramas and beautiful walks, close to our campsite in Cassis. Stroll along Cap Canaille and admire the splendid view over the town and the coast. The massif is listed and rises to 394m.

Don’t miss the Route des Crêtes. 15 km long, it runs along the coast to La Ciotat, winding through the massif and offering breathtaking scenery.

The Calanques de Cassis are limestone cliffs that plunge into the Mediterranean Sea, linking Marseilles to Cassis along almost 20 km of marked trails. This 4,000-hectare listed site can be visited from Cassis. A magical and enchanting place, the calanques are a paradise for scuba diving, rock climbing and discovering the flora and fauna…

These are truly some of the most beautiful landscapes you’ll find in the South of France. In April 2012, the Calanques became France’s 10th national park.

You’ll be amazed by the beauty of the cliffs carved out by the sea and the years, in highly resistant limestone, in the calanques of Cassis. The azure blue of the sea and its golden sand will transport you into a daydream. During your walk, you’ll notice an incredible number of fossils encrusted in the limestone of these calanques, some dating back over a hundred million years.
The calanques can be explored on foot by footpath or by boat.

If you choose to set off on foot, the path is signposted and 20 km long between Cassis and Marseille. You can do a short section or the whole walk. You’ll discover breathtaking panoramas, to the sound of cicadas in summer, in an unspoilt environment. Climbing, swimming, mountain biking, picking, you can punctuate your walk with idle or active breaks.
